G M Mostafizul Alam
G M Mostafizul Alam is a prominent Bangladeshi journalist currently serving as a special correspondent at Channel 24, a leading 24/7 news TV channel in Bangladesh.
Early life and education
Born in Sirajganj, a north-western district of Bangladesh, G M Mostafizul Alam spent his early years in a village along the banks of the Jamuna River. He attended Vedarganj Headquarters Pilot High School and M A Reza College in Shariatpur. Later, he pursued higher education at Jahangirnagar University, earning a Bachelor of Science (2005) and a Master of Science (2006) in Geography and Environment.
Career
G M Mostafizul Alam is known for his objective, informative, interesting, and investigative reporting, focusing particularly on environment, climate change, Rohingya crisis, natural and human-made disasters, election commission, political and other social issues.
G M Mostafizul Alam commenced his journalism career in June 2009 at News and Images as a staff reporter before moving to Radio Today FM 89.6 in December of the same year.
In March 2010, he joined ATN News in a similar role. After working there for over a year, he joined Channel 24 as a staff reporter in September 2011. He was promoted to senior reporter in 2015 and remained with Channel 24 until 2020.
Following his tenure with Channel 24, he contributed to the Climate Change Programme of Brac from April 2020 to December 2021 before rejoining Channel 24 in January 2022 as a special correspondent, his current role.
He plays a leading role at Channel 24, overseeing assignment planning, shaping news content, hosting talk shows, and anchoring special events.
Drawing from his academic background in Geography and Environment, G M Mostafizul Alam has produced numerous investigative reports on climate change and environmental issues. He has extensively covered major climatic events such as cyclones, floods, and landslides that have ravished Bangladesh over the last decade.
G M Mostafizul Alam‘s dedication to journalism has been recognized with accolades such as the ‘Investigative Journalism Awards 2015’ from Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) in the climate finance governance category. He received this award for his series of reports on corruption within the water development board, aired on Channel 24.
Furthermore, he has participated in various international events as a reporter, including the UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) in Madrid, Spain under the “Climate Change Media Partnership 2019 Reporting Fellowships” led by Internews’ Earth Journalism Network and the UN Climate Change Conference (COP23) held in Bonn, Germany from 6–17 November 2017, Global Climate Action Summit 2018 held September 12–14, 2018 in San Francisco, California, USA.
He also covered the United Nations Youth Climate Summit 2019, United Nations Climate Action Summit 2019 and 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly 2019 held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA.
He has covered how Rohingyas became victims of human trafficking in the Bay of Bengal from 2012 to 2015 and the mass exodus of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar to Bangladesh in 2016 and 2017 extensively. He has produced many investigative reports on the Rohingya refugee crisis and regularly follows-up.
Additionally, G M Mostafizul Alam has closely monitored the activities of the election commission, producing breaking and special reports on national and local government elections from 2010 to 2016. In 2015, he had been assaulted due to his investigative reports on corruption and irregularities of the Election Commission.
